Exercise (part 1) (Apr 22, 2008 at 11:30 AM) - When you read about the health benefits of physical activity, it almost sounds like an ad for snake oil. “When used according to directions, this product can help you loose weight, age more slowly, reduce stress and tension and sleep better; it tones muscles, strengthens joints and bones, and prevents artery disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.” Sounds too good to be true. Do all exercise programs really deliver all of these benefits?
Russian Steam Bath (Apr 21, 2008 at 11:49 AM) - The Russian steam has many effects: first it increases body temperature, and metabolism. It also increases the pulse rate, blood pressure, and leukocytosis. Large amounts of water should be taken before a treatment because the treatment will induce profuse sweating. It will also cause peripheral vasodilation.
Ice Pack (Apr 21, 2008 at 10:50 AM) - The application of cold will prevent much swelling and will lessen black and blue discoloration, which is due to rupturing of the blood vessels.
The ice pack will cause a contraction of the blood vessels slowing down the oozing of blood into the injured tissues. It also relieves pain.
