Family Medical Handbook

This book by Mervyn G. Hardinge,M.D. and Harold Shryock, M.A., M.D. is a must for most families. It is a very concise, well written, easy to understand home guide to health and basic emergency care. Do you know how to do Basic Life Support procedures? Do you know when to induce vomiting & when not to? Do you know how to combat shock, or stop major bleeding? The first chapter of this book deals with these problems.

Chapter Two is all about poisonings. There are many different kinds of poisons, from gasoline & paint thinner to pesticides and drugs. Treatments vary. This chapter gives basic information on what to do in the different cases.

Chapter Three is basic first aid. Here is an outline of the headings.

Chapter Four is all about the home medicine chest and first-aid kits
It's good to know just what should be in a well-stocked medicine chest & first-aid kit

Chapter Five is very helpful. It has flow charts that help you to diagnose common problems like:

Chapter Six gives you ideas of simple home treatments that can help make a big difference in how you feel, without using drugs.

All these things can really make a difference in how long you stay sick. The right use of these procedures can shorten the time of sickness considerably. That is the main objective. I know this book will help put your mind at ease when you know that there is something you can do for your loved one.
